I can see I have been absent for too long. Nobody knows me anymore

Blame a super reliable DP-P1 (but refurbished by me) and a life beset with issues not relating to Beyonwizes.

It was just the sequence of events from developer to usable updates that I was unfamiliar with. I do maintain a couple of Linux boxes so I knew it was more or less the same mechanism...

Thanks! I might be popping up soon in another area of the forum. Where's the best place to discuss (or grizzle about if necessary) the inconsistencies I'm finding with the power timers?

General topics sounds like it might be the go, but have a look at the descriptions in the board index in case somewhere else looks better for it, eg Bug reports, etc.

There has been some recent discussion in the forum about power timer vagaries. You might like to look at
T4 will not wake up after being shutdown and post there if your problems are similar, otherwise, as Gully suggested, start a new topic in T2 / T3 / T4 General Topics.

If you poke around a bit you may find other recent posts about power timers.

This definitely isn't the right topic :)

It doesn't, apart from the frequencies, and no C31.

I have a smaller (& cheaper) antenna pointed at Montpellier (6.5k LOS), get better reception than Mt Dandenong (93k, LOS). The old antenna is there as a backup, but I haven't seen the signal drop from Montpellier since the restack.

Also, I haven't noticed the poor signal we sometimes used to get over summer, which was even worse in analogue days (that for us ended in 2004).

It's the fact that the frequencies (or rather the service id's) that are different that is the issue. prl has to get a list of all of the Channel 9 service IDs for every region and map those to the correct picon so that the BW knows which picon to show with which service.

No, frequencies are irrelevant to constructing the picon tables. The data I ask for does not contain frequency information. I gather transmitter frequency information from the ACMA web site, but that's only used to construct the location scan tables.

Apart from Geelong not having the community channel C31, the data relevant to the picons for Geelong is identical to that for Melbourne. But I can't tell that until someone has given me the data.

That bit is true, but unconnected with frequency, other than the fact that the IDs are extracted from the broadcast data when you do a scan. The data I need are identifiers embedded in the digital data stream for individual logical channels. Specifically, the channel is mapped to a picon using the Stream ID (SID), Transport Stream ID (TSID), Originating Network ID (ONID) and the service type (radio/TV/acvanced codec TV, etc).

The data items I use to connect a digital service to a picon looks like this:

Code: Select all

        <e2service>
                <e2servicereference>1:0:1:1:327A:3273:EEEE0000:0:0:0:</e2servicereference>
                <e2servicename>WIN Canberra</e2servicename>
        </e2service>

I know it's not actually the frequencies.

Guys,
Thanks for fixing the picons. Updated from the beta feed today. The EPG and infobar look great now. I'd be lost without your commitment to the Beyonwiz.

One known oddity remains on my setup after the update. A new timer on 9HD shows as GEM in the timer list. Until I manually edit it to 9HD it doesn't highlight in the EPG either.

Is there anything else I should do or change to fix this or is it a different bug?

My setup is a T3 on IceTV. Have set 9HD to LCN 90 in IceTV. I use the Overlay HD 0.80 skin.

Hi Paul_oz53,

I am not having any incorrect icon issues with the new beta but I don't use IceTV. Hopefully another IceTV user who also uses OverlayHD can update us with their experience.

Ian.

That's a known bug in the Beyonwiz IceTV plugin associated with Nine HD.

Hi All Updated latest firmware on line yesterday morning on my T4 and T3.
The only change that I can see is that the picon for SBS Food is now there.
Picons for NBN, Prime, and SC10 on the NSW Far North Coast, and Picons for NBN Gold Coast, SC10 GC, and Nine GC are not there. Just the Beyonwiz Picon.
Sometime back I submitted the scan for channels to update picons as requested some time ago.

Have they been missed somehow?

Yes, they were. Sorry.

But in fact the scan file you posted doesn't have SBS Food Network in it. You're only seeing the food network picons because the picon links for your local food network channels happen to match the ones for Canberra and Brisbane. Your scan file still has SBS 3 rather than Food Network.

Please use the naming convention for the zip file and its contents that I suggest in the instructions. It saves me a bit of time, because the naming convention I put in the instructions matches how I hold my copies of the scan files for processing.

Hi Pri
I have just scanned and downloaded the channels where I live. Some little difficulty with Prime7 Lismore and Prime7 Gold Coast as you can only use one or the other but not both (covered much earlier in this forum. Also found out that you cannot name a folder with a forward or backslash.
I have had to do 2 attachments to cover both Prime7's.

I hope that this is ok for you. But I noticed on opening the file after saving to computer lists everything horizontally, and I could not change this to make things neater.

Don't worry about that. That is just a Windows vs Linux text file format difference.

Windows text files will have a "Line feed" and "Carriage Return" character at the end of each line, whereas Linux/Unix only typically includes the "Line Feed".

When you view Linux files on Windows, they come out all on one line for this reason. Best not to attempt to fix it :)

The XML reader I use to build the picons is pretty relaxed about line endings - or their absence.

Notepad++ is my poison of choice, and it handles them nicely.

Sorry, I should have mentioned, it is not the OS itself that is being picky, but rather the text editors that typically come bundled with them.

I haven't used it for a while, but last time I tried it, Wordpad read Unix-style <LF> line endings as line endings, but if you wrote the file out as plain text, all the line endings got changed to DOS-style <CR><LF>.

Hi Prl,

Notepad and Notepad++ are two very different beasts. :)

Notepad can really mess around with files with non MS-DOS line endings. In my experience it usually totally removes all the line endings.

The contents are fine, thanks.

The naming, though, isn't really anything like what I ask for in the instructions:
prl wrote:Then use File>Save Page As... in the browser to save the document to your computer. Save the document as getservices.xml in a folder named for the region (e.g. Canberra\getservices.xml).

Then make a ZIP or tar (or compressed tar) archive of the folder, named for the folder (e.g. Canberra.zip, containing Canberra and Canberra\getservices.xml). Please don't use any other archive tools, like RAR or 7z.
The "\" characters are not intended to be part of the filename. They are intended to be part of a DOS/Windows path name; i.e. Canberra\getservices.xml is a file called "getservices.xml" in a directory/folder called Canberra. I used the DOS/Windows convention because I assumed that most people would be doing this on a Windows-mased machine (Linux and OS X users can work it out themselves :)).

Also, as well as some .xml.xml file names, NSW Far North Coast and Gold Coast getservices.xml.zip itself contained a file getservices.zip as well as getservices.xml.

Sorry to be picky, but it really does help me if the naming convention is followed.

Hi Peter,
Here is my attempt at providing the file for the Sunshine Coast. Bit muddled because it will also include Brisbane , which we receive here, as you know from other "conversations" in another thread.
Funnily, I can add an attachment here, whereas I couldn't in the "other" thread.

Thanks, got it.

It doesn't matter that it has the Brisbane data in it, because the Brisbane data in your Sunshine Coast file is consistent with the other data I have for Brisbane.

However, your data also uncovered the Food Network picon links for Toowoomba and Wide Bay. :)

I've submitted some more updates to the picon repository:
  • Update for Sunshine Coast
  • Faked up Food Network picons where missing by changing the picon link to point to the Food Network picon instead of the SBS 3 picon
  • Added NSW Northern Rivers & Gold Coast

Re: Request for updates for channel picons

This mornings online update for T4 has fixed all icons just fine for the Newcastle broadcast area, even the channels I don't use (non favs). Thanks for the effort.

I also noticed the 'green up arrow' flashing in the info bar next to the hbbtv icon which I assume is an OS update alert, hadn't spotted it before.

That's been in the firmware for a while. The arrow will flash when there is an online update available that has not yet been downloaded and applied (with a reboot).

I don't think there have been many online updates for the public release firmware, they have mostly been usb only.

Hi Peter,

I've updated a T4 this morning (online/current latest version) and have attached the services/picons file for a Wangaratta (VIC) based scan (parents T4), which picks up Albury (NSW) services by the looks of it.

There's only SBS and ABC picons for this area at present so I'll leave it with you. No hurry for the picons, just uploading for the benefit of others in the area later.

I also noticed the earlier comment about awaiting Newcastle updates to channel 9 HD etc - can confirm no new channel 9 channels in Newcastle reception area yet. My prior updated services/picon file was the latest, I've attached it again direct from the box this morning anyway, post recent updates/picons.

Cheers.

I don't think many (if any) of the Nine affiliates are carrying the new channels yet.

Hi,

I wonder how long it will take for the new Seven Network line-up to get around?

Regards,
Ian.

Hi Pri

Updated both my T3 and T4. Lovely to see all the picons for NSW Far North Coast and Gold Coast.
Thank you very much for all your efforts.

Have a Happy Christmas one and all.

I finally got around to updating the firmware on my T3 but I still have no picicons for the three Prime MPEG4 channels (64 4ME, 65 ishoptv, 68 RACING.COM). All the other channel's picicons are correct. I receive Prime Orange.

The servicerefs for Orange 4ME, ishoptv and RACING.COM have changed to indicate that they are now MPEG4 rather than MPEG2.

Do you see the picons for them in Last Scanned and/or in Terrestrial TV LCN, but not in your Favourites?

If so, probably all you need to do is delete them from your Favourites list and add them back.

If they're missing in all of those, try rescanning, and then replace them in the Favourites list.

The picicons were there in Last Scanned but not Terrestrial TV LCN (which is what I use, I don't have a Favourites list). I cleared services and rescanned and now I have the icons in Terrestrial TV LCN. Thanks.
