Request for updates for channel picons

Posted: Thu Aug 13, 2015 13:02

With the introduction of RACING.COM, and various other updates to the services offered on digital TV, I'd like to collect a new set of input files to set up the channel picons (the channel logos that appear in the infobar and channel list, or optionally on the T4 front panel).

I currently have data covering the following regions:

Code: Select all

Adelaide Hobart Spencer Gulf
Albany WA Launceston Sunshine Coast
Ballarat Melbourne Sydney
Bendigo Mt Gambier Tamworth
Brisbane Newcastle Toowoomba
Cairns Northern Rivers NSW & Gold Coast Townsville
Canberra NSW South Coast Wagga
Central Coast Orange Warrnambool
Coffs Harbour Perth Wide Bay
Geelong Rockhampton Wollongong
Gippsland Shepparton
If you're in a region that's not listed and don't have picons, but would like to have them, please feel free to follow the steps below to send me data for your region. For example, I have all state and territory capitals, except Darwin.

I can get my own data for Canberra. I'd like to get updated data for the other regions. I've also slightly simplified the data collection process. Please use the process described here, rather than the one in Channel logos (picons) or in Logos? + first impressions.

This is the only way I can maintain the picons for regions outside Canberra: your help will be appreciated by all other users in your region! :)

Preparing data for picons for your region

Fetch the channel info from your Beyonwiz using:
T2 - http://beyonwizt2/web/getservices?sRef= ... %20bouquet
T3 - http://beyonwizt3/web/getservices?sRef= ... %20bouquet.
T4 - http://beyonwizt4/web/getservices?sRef= ... %20bouquet
U4 - http://beyonwizu4/web/getservices?sRef= ... %20bouquet
V2 - http://beyonwizv2/web/getservices?sRef= ... %20bouquet

Change the "beyonwizt2/3/4", beyonwizu4 or beyonwizv2 to the network name you configured your PVR to if you've assigned a network name Some routers don't support using the network name in the URL. If that doesn't work, put the IP address of the PVR in place of "beyonwizt2/3/4".

That should download an XML document.

Then use File>Save Page As... in the browser to save the document to your computer. Save the document as getservices.xml in a folder named for the region (e.g. Canberra\getservices.xml).

Then make a ZIP or tar (or compressed tar) archive of the folder, named for the folder (e.g. Canberra.zip, containing Canberra and Canberra\getservices.xml). Please don't use any other archive tools, like RAR or 7z.

Then post to this topic and add the archive as an attachment. If the forum refuses to allow you to attach the .zip (or .tar or .tgz or .tar.gz) file, add the ".txt" extension to it (e.g. Canberra.zip.txt). Please leave the extension that specifies the archive type in the name, so I know what to do with it.

Thanks. I'll be doing the fixes for the picons for HDMI in first, but it'll probably take a few of days to get a full set of updates for the broadcast channel picons.

Here's one for Launceston TAS. My new T4 shows picons for the SBS channels but no others.

I hope I've done this right. The Sunshine Coast is relying on me...

Umm... How do I attach the file?

You wait for prl to do something, then prl waits for me to do something and then one day a firmware update will become available and it'll all just work. :D

I'm still waiting for updates for most of the areas I have picon coverage for.

In particular, I'd like to get up-to-date data for the areas that have recently got new services on Nine (or at least added LCNs for the same services).

I think that means Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth. and Darwin.

I have no other way of getting this data than from other owners.

Hi,

The Geelong transmitter is just a re-trans. of Melbourne, sans C31. Only difference is the frequencies. Do you need the channel info for this area?

Unfortunately, the only way to tell if a separate Geelong picon setup is needed is to look at the file. Picon linkages are on DVB stream ids, not anything obvious like freqency or LCN.

I've put a link back to the instructions in my recent post asking for updates, but as you've probably seen, MrQuade has posted the Perth data.

Well, that didn't do much good!

I used this:http://beyonwizt2/web/getservices?sRef= ... %20bouquet

I got a web page error message.

Did it a couple of times. Changing beyonwizt2 to 192.168.1.14, and tried Explorer instead of FF.

Turns out, each time I did it the T2 crashed.

Here's the 1st log (there are 5):
enigma2_crash_1444079474.log
(27.85 KiB) Downloaded 167 times
I also realised that "LastScanned" will only give C31. I scanned that one after doing a scan for the Geelong.

I'll do a scan later, but I won't be trying that URL again! Is there another method?

Plus, my wife's T2 BB just arrived, and I have to go and get a 2.5 HDD!! :D

Oh no, MSY isn't open yet. :(

Might take the time to update the Bootloader & FW first this time.

Hi,

I just noticed that I used:
This is because I highlighted the text of the link, copied and pasted it, instead of doing right click, "Copy Link Location", and pasting that.

Missed the
%20bouquet
part.

Don't know why that should cause a crash though.

Hi,

Can users in the areas requested by Prl please submit the data for your region.

With the channel changes happening over November it would really help Prl to get the data he needs to allow him to generate all the nice new picons that go with all the channel changes.

Thank you, in advance, for your assistance with this request.

Regards,
Ian.

Geelong wasn't on the original request list (I just read the 1st post: it was an exclude list), nor is it here. Neither have I seen a upload for it.

Do you still require one, or will it wait until after the new/rearranged channels have appeared (9 & SBS)?

This time I'll "copy link location", rather than highlight, copy & paste the text of the post.

I'm baaack...

I'll really need to do a full round of requests for the channel info files for everything.

I'm really disappointed that files for Melbourne and Sydney were never posted. I suspect that there are more users in those two areas than in all the rest combined. That means that more people are affected by missing data for those regions, but also that there are more people who might have contributed, but didn't.

The picons can only be maintained with user co-operation. The response to this last round of requests for data left me wondering whether I should bother any more.

IanSav has made his versions of picons for the new channels available in the beta area, so that part is easier for me, but without the channel info for a region, I can't update it.

I'll most i more detail in the next few days. I've got a lot of forum messages and email to catch up on.

Edit: Sorry more channels coming later this week. Will post again after that.

Edit: PRL this file should be fine for now. Found out today the new Nine channels are for metro areas only at this stage. Spoke to NBN Newcastle and they have no timing for the new channels.

I have a number of other new and updated icons for SBS and Channel 7 if you are interested. The full set of new icons for the revamped Channel 9 line up should arrive in the next few days as well.

Here is Sydney and Wollongong, I am in the South Sydney but can scan the Gong from here but I do pick up a couple of different sites so a have a few duplicates, not sure if that matters or not? If you just need the main Transmitter let me know and I can do a manual scan for you.

They should come in one of the next couple of updates. When prl has a reasonably complete collection of regions, he can make the required changes, and submit them for inclusion in the firmware. When his submissions have been accepted and included into the the firmware, and all the other necessary fixes/changes have been made, a new set of updates will be pushed out to all users via an online update.

Is there a file we can manually change in the short term to move the current picons around. I'd like to move gem picon to 92 and remove extra from 94, etc. or just have them blank as its a bit confusing.

Hi Simoncasey,

If you are happy to access the UNIX shell and delete the appropriate links in "/picons" that create the link between the channel id in that folder and the logo in the "channel_picons" folder. You can then manually create the appropriate links to adjust the picons as you wish.

Regards,
Ian.
