Timer Icons - The basic timer life cycle

The forum only allows me 8 attachments, no matter how small they are, so this will be split into two posts.

What does .png mean in Beyonwiz T4 timer_autotimer .png

Post by Frozzix » Fri May 05, 2017 02:17

G'day Gully,.,.,Thanks for the info mate but, what does .png mean in timer_autotimer .png.

I'm near friggin too embarrassed to post this query.

It shows my utter uselessness in this world of internet jargon.

I hadda decent crack at googling a heap of .png stuff and all I came up with was sites about Papua New Guinea.

timer_autotimer.png is referring to an image file called timer_autotimer.png.

PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is a graphics file format that is like a free and improved version of GIF.

I assume that you are referring back to your other thread regarding timer icons, and then this post that explains what they all mean?

I think that when you read timer_autotimer.png, it is just referring to the fact that if the timer has a green icon with the up/down arrow on it, then it is a timer that was created by an autotimer definition.

The names of the image files are put in the timer icon FAQ by the forum software.

They're really not an important part of the post unless you want to find the files in the firmware.

Each image in the FAQ has a text description of what it means.

However, I've now made the descriptive text bold and added more spacing to make it clearer which icon the text refers to.

Thanks mate.
I apologise for being irritatingly naïve on this T4 stuff, but there's another timer icon that's in my T4 Timer List that I can't see on your list.
I've got about 150 timers and this icon is in about 6 timers.
Itz a green dot with yellow bordering and a yellow image inside it.

Many thanks for all your help.

Perhaps a screen capture, via OpenWebif, of the appropriate screen containing the icon(s) in question will assist Prl in answering your question.

Ian.

The post was clearly inadvertently incomplete. I'm sure the OP intended that it should contain identifying information.

I know. Even so, a picture will tell you a lot more about the icon than a text description of it. ;)

I have to agree with IanSav here:

I can't think of what the icon might be. The only thing I can think of is that the "is a repeat timer" icon can overlay either the "is an AutoTimer-set timer" or the "is an IceTV-managed timer", and your description might match the repeat icon overlaying the AutoTimer icon.

As far as I know, my post describes all the icons that can be displayed in a timer list entry, and the icons are all the same in all three UI skins in the T series.

If you can't get screenshot of an entry with this icon, where does the icon appear in the timer list entries? The top left (left of the timer name) icon can show "is a repeat timer", "is an AutoTimer-set timer" or "is an IceTV-managed timer". The bottom left icon (left of the text describing the timer state) can display any of the other seven icons: "waiting", "preparing", "recording", "zap timer active", "finished", "disabled" or "failed".

Goodonya prl,,,,,,,,,,,Yoov damn well nailed it mate. I aint got the Ice tv fingo. And I've no idea how to put a picture of my tv screen into this forum.
So I used YOUR overlay scenario about the other 2 icons and bingo.
With your info I can now clearly see on the timer list how the overlay of the 2 icons morphs them into the icon I've described.

How the bleedineck could I have found this out by trawling thru the forum!

Once agen I humbly apologise to all the forum repliers for my lack of forum posting skills.
I'm definitely not trying to piss people off.
I really do genuinely dig all the help I can get.

Those icons shouldn't be able to overlay each-other normally, so I am not surprised it isn't in the forums elsewhere.

In fact, I am not even sure how it can be both an autotimer and a repeating timer at once.

Did you create an autotimer, and then go and manually edit that timer that was automatically created, and then try to turn it into a repeating timer?

If so, that sort of process should not be necessary. The Autotimer can usually take care of all of your repeat recordings for you.

You may want to have a look at IceTV if you haven't already investigated it. I personally think that it makes setting up series recordings quite a bit easier than configuring autotimers. If you have concentration difficulties, then maybe IceTV can take some of the management overhead off your hands (for a fee of course, it is a paid service).

Great, glad it's sorted.

I've taken the liberty of editing your post so that the quote works (you accidentally deleted the closing ']' in the opening [quote] markup). If you quote and then edit the quote, you can check that it's worked by using the Preview button under the text entry box to check the layout of the post.

That way. Similarly for IceTV timers. It's not an unreasonable thing want to do if you use IceTV, but want a manual repeating timer, but that appears to be broken.

Fozzix, since you appear to be a former TiVo user, IceTV Series Recordings are probably the closest you can get to TiVo Season Pass on the Beyonwiz, but as MrQuade says, unlike TiVo, it's a subscription service ($8/month), but again unlike TiVo, it still works ;)
