WizFX

Post by ciscus » Wed Dec 04, 2013 11:35

Hi All.

Having trouble running WizFX on a Windows 8 platform.

Does anyone know if it works and if yes, what is the best place to download.

Thanks in advance

WizFX hasn't been updated in ages. The two (only, most recently released?) versions can be downloaded from the download links in the WizFX entry on the OpenWiz Software page.

It may be a problem with the Win8 firewall settings rather than with WizFX itself.

I'd recommend using YARDWiz instead.

WizFX

Thanks for your help, but I still can't get WizFX to run on Windows 8.

Turned off firewall and security - no difference - still can't run it.

WizFX starts OK, I enter the WizFX file name and press "Change TS File". It flashes up for a second, does nothing and then I get a message

Access violation at address 00403DC8 in module "WizFX.Exe" Read of address FFFFFEFC.

Also tried YARDWIZ but I'll have to learn how to use it.

Anyone have anymore ideas on WizFX please?

Again, thanks

Sounds like you should persevere with YARDWiz, then. Source code for WizFX is available, but it's in Object Pascal. I have no idea whether there are compilers available for it for Win8.

The equivalent of WizFX Change TS File in YARDWiz is Tools > Convert TVWIZ to TS format then select the tvwiz folder.

Hi Ciscus,

I suspect that Microsoft has changed much under the covers in the networking code for Windows 8 and even more so for Windows 8.1. It is probable that WizFX will not work without a code update. You could try Windows XP compatibility mode but I doubt that will help.

Regards,
Ian.

Hi Ciscus,

Are you trying WizFX version 1.0.1.4 or version 1.0.2.3?

I can confirm that WizFX version 1.0.2.3 works on my version of Windows 8 (Win8 Pro 64bit version) – I just tried it. I downloaded a recording in .tvwiz format & also a recording in .ts format. I also converted a .tvwiz recording already on the notebook’s HDD to .ts format. They all play back fine with PotPlayer.
The only firewall I use is the one in Norton’s 360 (I also use Norton’s 360 antivirus).

However, there does appear to be a few items missing when compared to the same version of WizFX on my WinXP PC – the version number doesn’t display when I click on the ‘About’ icon (speaker icon in the top right corner) & the icons for the file types (in front of each recording name on the Wiz) only display as black squares.

I prefer YARDWiz except when on the very rare occasion I want to see files in the ‘Contents’ folder of the Wiz – for this I use WizFX.

edit added: I don’t know if this makes any difference; my Win8 notebook also has the Windows Media Centre Pack 64bit option & is only using the Ivy Bridge i5 Intel HD 4000 graphics.
