PotPlayer Updates (PotPlayer replaces KMPlayer)...

Post by IanSav » Fri Feb 04, 2011 08:35

Hi,

I was browsing http://www.videohelp.com/ this morning and came across a media player called PotPlayer. When I read the following I thought I would bring this information to the attention of KMPlayer lovers in this forum.
PotPlayer is a free advanced multimedia player. Done by the same Korean author as The KMPlayer. Considered to be faster and improved version of KMP. Plenty of features and rich customization.
It appears that this more recent player is getting more love and attention than is predecessor. Here is a link to PotPlayer: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/PotPlayer

Update: It appears that both PotPlayer and KMPlayer are still being updated.

Regards,
Ian.

(It looks like there is some active development happening at the moment. I think I will suspend updating this thread with every update and just post updates if they are new after a longer period of time. Users can follow http://www.videohelp.com/tools/PotPlayer if they want blow by blow updates.)

I’m glad you started this topic Ian – I’m pretty impressed with PotPlayer. I decided to try it after temporarily updating to the latest version of KMPlayer from an earlier version.

It seems that KMPlayer has turned into a disaster (the latest version appeared to grab ads from the internet, something which I couldn’t prevent), whereas PotPlayer & the latest version of VLC Media Player are now both very good players.

I wondered whether anyone else had tried the latest KMplayer, I was also hit by the issues you mentioned, it seems as if it has turned into a junk ridden trojan horse for malware - couldn't get rid of it fast enough....

Hi,

This feedback encourages me to keep the update reports coming.

There are frequent beta releases for this product but I tend to only report the official/stable releases.

Yes it’s a disaster isn’t it Brian? Pandora TV, the new owners of KMPlayer, should hang their heads in shame for what they did to one of the best players. I just hope I got rid of everything the upgrade put on my PC (& I un-ticked all the offers during the install).

I noticed that Ian, but I decided it was safer to use the official/stable release you last mentioned (version 1.5.34115). :)

Thanks Ian. I don’t know if this was a fluke on my part or not, but with this version (1.5.38562 x64) I can now disable the time stamp that appears when I play back videos made on our video camera.:D I couldn’t work out how to do it with the earlier stable version, & I certainly spent some time trying.

It would be nice if there was some English instructions or guides for PotPlayer – without going to full screen display I can’t work out how to get rid of the part above the progress bar that shows the audio playback graph – this wasn’t on older versions.

This time with the install options I decided to tick ‘PotPlayer Live Files’ & ‘All supported files’, & I ended up with two versions in the ‘Program Files\Daum\PotPlayer’ directory; one called ‘PotPlayerMini64.exe’ (labelled as ‘Playback only’ under desktop programs) & the other called ‘PotPlayer64.exe’ that has the word ‘live’ in the PotPlayer icon. They both seem to work the same & so far I can’t see any difference.

Hi Dennis,

I don't actually use the program I provides the updates as a service to the forum. :)

I use VLC for the PC and Plex on the TV or OpenELEC XBMC on my Raspberry Pi. I do have an iMito MX1 Android media player but that will soon be replaced by a Minix NEO X7 Android media player. (Anyone want a Logitech Revue Android media player?)

Thanks again Ian. :)

Does anyone know where to report bugs for PotPlayer (on an English site that the Developer’s definitely visit - The Developer’s site is in Korean)? VIDEOHelp.com forum appears to just have general discussion.

For anyone wanting to install the latest version; The 32bit version of 1.5.39659 has a bug in the Preferences settings menu running on 32bit Vista where after a while the Preferences menu changes to a larger size & preferences won’t save, they revert to the default settings.
The 64bit version of 1.5.39659 is fine running on Win8 Pro 64bit as is the 32bit version of 1.5.39036 running on 32bit Vista.

Hi Dennis,

The impression I have is that the author has little/nothing to do with English. Everything we see is handled by intermediaries. The best idea may be to find someone local who speaks Korean and get them to make a direct post to the author on your behalf.

Alternatively, you shouldn't have to wait long for a new version that will probably be fixed. ;)

Ian.

Thanks Ian. Seeing I don’t know anyone who speaks Korean, I may just wait to see what the next update brings – they seem come on a fairly regular basis. Besides, version 1.5.39036 works fine on Vista32.
