Video ReDo with h.264 support now out
Just trying the trial version now....so far it's loaded a wiz .ts file, and allowed me to edit, exported to a new ts file, and it's worked! Looks like this is a winner (early days yet though)
Would be interested to hear how other people go if they try it too?
I found the download by going to their forums, searching for h.264, and the link is under the subject header "Getting started with VideoReDo TVSuite V4 with H.264"
Cheers!

Re: Video ReDo with h.264 support now out
What sort of wiz ts file? If it was recording of a TV program then it would be a mpeg2 transport stream file, and Video ReDo has always worked with mpeg2-ts files (aka .ts files).cerebus wrote:Just trying the trial version now....so far it's loaded a wiz .ts file, and allowed me to edit, exported to a new ts file, and it's worked!
FYI what is new in this version of Video ReDo is the H.264 support meaning that it should now also be able to edit and transcode LiDiC and DP-P2 A/V Input recordings.

Re: Video ReDo with h.264 support now out
Apologies, should have been clearer, it's a .ts file captured through the analogue inputs of the P2, from a VCR, so it's an mpeg-4 file.....Dave? wrote:What sort of wiz ts file? I've been keeping an eye on Video ReDo as they've been working on h.264 support for a while now....there's been plenty out there (as you say) for the mpeg-2 tv captures, but not much that I found useable for the mpeg-4 ts files. Based on the limited testing I've done so far, the h.264 version of Video ReDo seems to fit the bill.
I've also had a couple of mpeg-4 files captured from very old video, so quality wasn't great, that caused problems when loading into various programs to either edit or convert, but Video ReDo has a 'Quick Stream Fix' tool option that (at least in the one instance I've tested) fixed the stream, which then allowed me to edit it with no problems.
This is excellent news. Apart from the fact that VideoRedo was already an excellent program for editing regular PVR recordings, this now means that for wiz h.264 recordings what was previously a 2 step process using 2 different applications can now easily be done entirely with VideoRedo.
Until now (apart from demuxing and remuxing etc... with varying levels of success) the only reliable way to convert wiz h.264 recordings was:
1. Use MediaCoder to convert to mpeg2.ts
2. Then load the .ts file into VideoRedo

Sorry, forgive my ignorance (well, at least this bit of it ), but are you saying that the av inputs capture video in 5:4 instead of 4:3?grl wrote:So can the 5:4 aspect ratio be fixed in the processed mpeg-4 file?
VideoReDo does have an option to set the saved file as 4:3, not sure if that's what you're after?
EDIT: A bit more reading seems to suggest that all that option does is change "the aspect ratio bits in the MPEG2 sequence header". Not sure if the reference to mpeg-2 headers is because it only relates to mepg-2, or because the help file hasn't been updated to reflect the mpeg-4 capabilities.
Try and capture via LiDIC a VHS image of a circle - make sure it really does look like a circle before capture. Then look at the resulting file ---- 5:4 " tall circle" read all about square pixels versus non-square pixels. I hope VideRedo can sort it. TMGenc does but the current version is not Vista or Windows 7 compatible.

I could be wrong, but from a quick look it doesn't look like it....I'll keep poking around and hopefully prove myself wrong.netmask wrote:I hope VideRedo can sort it.
It's been a while since I looked around at software for working with h.264, but does the latest version of TMGenc allow you to edit (mainly ad-removal) h.264 (from the P2 av inputs) and save in the same format? If so it sounds like it would be a better option than video redo if it also fixes the 5:4 issue? (And I'm sticking with XP for the foreseeable future )netmask wrote:TMGenc does but the current version is not Vista or Windows 7 compatible.
Yes it does and you can try different pixel size and formats in preview. Hmmm, sounds like it'd be a better bet than Video ReDo then.....netmask wrote:Yes it does and you can try different pixel size and formats in preview. One quick question, one of the reviews I've read mentions the edit tools aren't great to work with in TMPGenc, is this something you've found?
I used it basically to convert the file and fix the aspect ratio to bog standard MPEG2. I did my actual editing in either Womble or Vegas depending on how many audio tracks and special FX I wanted. The edit timeline is not too bad and it tells you if you can't cut on a particular frame etc. I might revisit it and download a trial version - the one thing I don't like about Pegasus products is the requirement to be connected to the Internet when you run the program. When I'm in editing mode I disconnect the phone and turn off the Internet. "Garbo Syndrome"

Cerberus and I have been PMing a little about this new VideoRedo. Unfortunately, i've left all the legwork to him (her?)
Hopefully i'll get a chance to try it out (and the stupidly named TPEMPENGPENCMCENPEMC) today or tomorrow too.
VideoRedo does the editing without re-encoding, but TPMEMALMGMPGMAG seems to force re-encode... which i guess it has to to fix the 5:4 thing. :/

I've run into some issues with VideoRedo's aspect ratio change function: it doesn't seem to work
I've posted a message on their forum - i'll update this thread when i get something.
UPDATE: Changing the aspect ratio doesn't yet work without re-encoding. Obviously a bug they didn't expect. They say it'll be fixed in a couple of weeks, but i do recall them saying that about the introduction of h.264 editing... that took about 6 months.

Sorry if this is too obvious but,
Can this new version convert a Wiz (TS) file to h264 (saving space while maintaining good quality)?
Can it convert a DVD (main title or episode) to h264?

Well, I've been playing with TV Suite Vs 4 for a little while now. For some reason, when I convert a Toppy .mpg transport stream, the H264.ts file is acutally BIGGER than the original MPEG2 .ts file. It took over half an hour to covert a 380MB file, so the transcoding, as always, is a slow process. But, not reducing the file size is a puzzle to me.Paul55 wrote:Sorry if this is too obvious but,

Subs are also NOT pereserved, so that would be another issue. Personally, I'd just go with a bigger hard drive .
I haven't tried burning a DVD with this version of VRD, but the previous VRD TV Suite 3 worked well, so I expect that it'll be the same for this function in the new version.
