I think so, but I can?t be certain - unfortunately I haven?t been able to make ?Wycliffe-5? terminate early again with WizZilla. The only change I made was to re-index the DP-S1 HDD due to an SBS recording being temporarily lost after being re-named. I can?t see that fixing the problem though ? I think it is just an intermittent issue that doesn?t want to play ball at the moment.

Whenever time permits, mainly during the night, I?ll keep copying ?Wycliffe-5? & ?New Year Day Concert 2011? with WizZilla to see if I can replicate those two 'short copy' issues. I?ll also do the same using getWizPnP.exe 0.3.4.0.

So far, getWizPnP.exe 0.3.4.0 continues to copy reliably, even copying a number of recordings at a time.

I have some more observations on my ?Invalid argument to function: at line 6899 Event: TIMER1CTDOWN ? Dialog:0? issue, which I?ll post in a following post.

Some more observations on my ?Invalid argument to function: at line 6899 Event: TIMER1CTDOWN ? Dialog:0? issue here.

On my PC I notice when a number of recordings are queued for download in WizZilla 1.1.0.60, the copy progress bar doesn?t progress to an indicated 100%.

At an indicated 98% or 99% the copy progress bar disappears, the queued recording that seems to have just been copied also disappears from the queue list, & the green tick disappears from the same recording in the main list.
Switching immediately to Windows Explorer (already open in another window) I can observe there are two more tvwiz files still to be copied for this same recording (I knew how many tvwiz files the recording folder contained). These two remaining files continue to copy but before the last tvwiz file copies to the HDD, & before WizZilla starts copying the next queued recording, WizZilla displays the ?Invalid argument to function: at line 6899 Event: TIMER1CTDOWN ? Dialog:0? error message. By clicking ?OK? on this error message, WizZilla shuts down & the next queued recording starts copying, & completes copying, in the background. The remaining queued recordings of course fail to copy.

At a guess, it seems that WizZilla isn?t waiting long enough for the last tvwiz file to copy. If this is the case, I wonder if the timeout allows for copying to Ext USB HDDs connected to older slower PCs? My much refurbished Windows Home XP SP3 PC is way overdue for replacement but still works reliably, although a lot slower than modern PCs (it is only a 2.4GHz P4 with 1GB of RAM, new power supply, upgraded HDDs etc etc).

I tried copying 4 short queued recordings with WizZilla to one of the PC?s Ext USB HDDs (the same one used in all previous tests) & I could get the exact same above failure sequence every time ? the timeout error message after the 1st queued recording almost copied.
By copying the same recordings to the PC's internal HDD in the same queue sequence, sometimes WizZilla would copy all recordings without fail, other times it would fail after almost copying the 2nd recording & other times after almost copying the 3rd recording. In each case Windows Explorer showed WizZilla had one tvwiz file still to copy before the error message came up ? as detailed above. This last file eventually copies. So copying to the Int HDD is slightly more reliable than copying to the Ext HDD.

I then tried copying the same 4 recordings in the same sequence, plus an additional 2 recordings, with getWizPnP.exe 0.3.4.0 to the PC?s Ext USB HDD, using the following command:
c:\>getwizpnp.exe -a -H (the S1?s fixed IP address) -p 49152 "RocKwiz-16 (BS)" "Rockwiz-10 (MM)" "Rockwiz-11 (BM)" "Rockwiz-12 (RM)" "Rockwiz-3 (WJ)" "Rockwiz-6 (SO'N)" -O "M:\PVR_copy-test6" -d ?resume
This version of getWizPnP.exe is used by WizZilla 1.1.0.60 & copied all these recordings, in sequence, reliably.

My PC, LAN & DP-S1 setup is the same as listed in my earlier post (see link at the top of this post).

Edit 4-Jan-11: The same above test using getWizPnP.exe 0.3.4.0, has been carried out a few more times with the same success.

That is also a possible explanation for the incomplete copies you were getting, if WizZilla is prematurely killing off the getWizPnP process doing the copy.

I posted this in another thread but it got lost:

I have a new P2 with 2TB disk, which is replacing my faithful (destroyed) P1.

When I run Wizzilla, I get the "GetWizPnP exited early" message.

Without Wizzilla, the BW is pretty much useless for me.

Is there a known workaround? Note that I cannot go to an earlier firmware as I have the 2TB P2.

What firmware are you running on the P2? If it's 01.07.055, then the bug is in the Beyonwiz, not in WizZilla (or getWizPnP). If you don't like the error message, use WizFX instead, which won't give you an error, but will give you a corrupted recording instead.

You can probably get a more recent firmware release that fixes this problem by contacting Beyonwiz Support and explaining what the problem is. Several other forum members have already done this.

I thought this issue was only a known problem with 01.05.334 f/w. Is it also a problem with 01.07.055?

Now I am confused.

Is this a known problem with 01.07.055?

And, is there a fix available ftom BeyonWiz support?

No, I was the one confused. The problem I referred to is a problem in 01.05.334, as Dennis pointed out. It's not a known problem in 01.07.055, which is a later firmware than 01.05.334.

Do you get the "getWizPnP exited early" error on all recordings you try to copy from your P2, or only on some? Do you get this error immediately on starting the copy, or after the copy has run for a while? If the latter, does it happen reliably at about the same place in the recording? Do you get any of the recording copied onto your PC HDD?

Have you tried using WizFX to copy recordings that fail to copy using WizZilla?

It's possible to run getWizPnP (it's a command-line program) directly from the WizZilla installation. It may be worth trying that (I can step you through it) to see what error getWizPnP is getting.

Wizill resumes from where it left off the previous attempt. Smetimes it will run for several minutes, sometimes less than a minute.

I called Technical Support and I have to say that I encountered the most friendly, helpful support person I have ever had. And he spoke clear aussie English.

He was well aware of the bug, and sent me a newer firmware 01.07.350.

And, if you are not aware, the numbering of the "07" firmware now matches the "05" series.

He also said that the 2TB version of the DP-P2 should have shipped with this version.

Hope this really fixes the problem. Find out tonight.

I've answered in the other topic where you posted. It's usually better to keep discussion of a problem in one topic. That makes it easier for other people to follow and to find later if they search.

The forum regulars, who provide most of the replies, generally visit all forums and examine all new posts. If we can contribute productively to the thread then we will usually respond.

In this forum there is *never* a need to cross post.

Guess what. It did not work.

I updated the firmware.

Used Wizilla to copy a file from BW to PC.

File is 3,521 MB. Fell over at 589 MB.

Sounds like it's time to start looking for the errors underlying the "getWizPnP exited early" error message.

Do you get this problem only with one recording, or with more than one? Have you tried copying other recordings?

I can't run WizZilla at the moment (on a Mac). Can someone help by telling us where to find/view WizZilla's logs?

In Windows XP ?wizilla.log? is in:
C:\Documents and Settings\(current user)\Local Settings\Temp\WizZilla

Change logging level in ?wizilla.ini? in:
C:\Documents and Settings\(current user)\Local Settings\Application Data\Two Wizards\WizZilla 1.0

The default level is 2 (LogLevel=2). Change to 5 for more info in 'wizzilla.log'.
Level 5 also gives additional log files & slows down listing all recordings from the wiz.

getWizPnP.exe (version 0.3.4.0) is in:
C:\Program Files\WizZilla 1.0\utils

I tried copying the same file again today. This time it got a lot further - 1540 MB.

The log file does not say much:

14:31:34 08-01-2011 - Processing 'Melbourne's New Year's Eve Celebrations Dec.31.2010_23.25'
14:31:34 08-01-2011 - Command is 'getwizpnp.exe -a -t -H 192.168.0.11 -p 49152 --BWName "Melbourne's New Year's Eve Celebrations Dec.31.2010_23.25" -O "D:\RecordedTV" -d --resume'
14:43:56 08-01-2011 - ERROR!!! - Download failed - GetWizPnP process exited early!

I will try it with more detailed logging.

You?re welcome Peter. How do you tell what information is coming from WizZilla & what is coming from getWizPnP?
I haven?t tried to look for log files when running getWizPnP.exe.

The only two log levels I have tried are 2 & 5.
In level 2 only wizzilla.log is updated (additional log files listed below become available in level 5).

Looking at the existing log files in my C:\......\Temp\WizZilla directory:

In level 5 the following log files are available ?.

wizzilla.log ? with addition information over level 2. Although even set to level 5 it didn?t show any error message when ?Wycliffe-5? didn?t fully download.
ConnectList_(date & time).log ? this lists all recordings on the wiz.
Discovery_(date & time).log ? this only lists the discovered wizzes (Wiz name & IP address only).
Dryrun_(date & time).log ? this lists the same information as when running; c:\getwizpnp.exe -a -H (wiz IP address) --list -v "(recording name)". It also adds the recording name.
EpisodeDate_(date & time).log ? this lists similar information to Dryrun_(date & time).log.
listdebug_(date & time).log ? from what I can tell this appears to list all progressive steps. I don?t understand what they mean though.

Not much help I?m afraid but I can try a few things if you wish.

May I suggest that Peter D tries a download of the same file with getWizPnP.exe to see what happens?

Peter D ?. Is the troublesome recording an SBS recording? Has it been edited on the wiz? Does it have any bookmarks set? Does it play back normally on the wiz? Have you tried downloading in the wiz native format instead of .ts? Do other recordings download ok?

It was a Chanel 7 Standard Definition recording.

I have tried a Ch 9 SD recording and it failed at 262 MB.

And an ABC SD recording which failed at 39 MB.

Hi, Peter. Try running a DOS window (Start>Run..., then enter cmd in the typein box, and press OK. Then:

Code: Select all

c:
cd "\Program Files\WizZilla 1.0\utils"
getwizpnp.exe -a -t -H 192.168.0.11 -p 49152 --BWName "Melbourne's New Year's Eve Celebrations Dec.31.2010_23.25" -O "D:\RecordedTV" -d --resume -v
Enter the last one as all one line. You may want to copy/paste it from the post.

Copy/paste the output into a post here.

Hi Peter D. If Peter?s (prl) last suggestion still doesn?t give a complete download I have another suggestion.

I have been wondering if a network problem is causing WizZilla to exit. I can bring up the error message you are getting by unplugging the Ethernet cable during a download & then reconnecting. After a while WizZilla displays the ?ERROR!!! - Download failed - GetWizPnP process exited early!? message & shuts down after clicking ?OK?. The log file also looks similar to what you posted.

Have you only had this WizZilla download problem since using your new DLink DIR-825 ?n? router with the DP-P2 or did you also have it with your old router & the DP-P2? Is it possible to rule out the wireless LAN by temporarily connecting to the P2 via wired LAN & then trying the same download with WizZilla?

Please give Peter?s suggestion a go first, plus anything else Peter suggests ? I would also like to know if you get a complete download using getWizPnP.

1. This is a well known bug in the latest public release of the firmware. The later version was supposed to fix the problem, but it obvioulsy has not (at least in the 1.07 release; 1.05 might be OK).

2. It was happening with the previous router.

3. It still happens when I use a wired connecton

4. I tried running GetWizPnP directly but got an error:

Bad WizPnP response: No device description returned from http://192.168.0.11:49152/tvdevicedesc.xml
Can't get a device description for 192.168.0.11

When I switched to hard wired, the IP address changed to 12. I ran GetWizPnP again, and it fell over at 163 MB with the error:

<file name>.ts/0005: Bad Request
Download failed: Bad Request

where <file name> is the file name which I did not want to type in again.

Hi Peter D. Ok, that eliminates the Wireless LAN.

I just tried downloading a recording in .ts format from our 2nd S1 still running 01.05.334 (which has this known problem) using WizZilla, & after downloading about 250MB I get the ?Download failed - GetWizPnP process exited early!? error message, which I expected. Clicking ?OK? for this error doesn?t shut WizZilla down.

I also tried downloading the same file in .ts format using getWizPnP.exe 0.3.4.0 & got the following:

Code: Select all

E:\>getwizpnp.exe -a -t -H <the S1?s fixed IP address> -p 49152 "Escape To The Country" -O "M:\PVR_copy-test3" -d --resume -v

This looks like what you are getting.

If you try WizFX you may find that WizFX ver:1.0.2.3 will appear to download correctly in the wiz native format but will miss downloading some .tvwiz files (0kB instead of 32,768kB), & downloading in .ts format will give some corruption of the downloaded recording. It won?t display any error messages when either occurs.

?.
I was aware of this in 01.05.334 but I didn?t know about this problem in 01.07.055 f/w.
Unless Peter (prl) or someone else can make any other suggestions, & seeing you can?t revert to older f/w that didn?t have this problem, it would be worth while ringing DPG again & reporting what you have found.

Hi Dennis. Do you see the same problem downloading that recording with getWizPnP 0.4.3? Do you still have the problem if you download in Beyonwiz native format rather than TS format?

I'm trying to tell whether the problem is the Beyonwiz firmware, an error in the trunc header file, or a getWIzPnP bug.

I called support again and have been given another version of the firmware (069). Will try it tonight.

Not a problem Peter (prl).

I just tried downloading the same recording in native format using WizZilla & had a similar result; header.tvwiz, stat, trunc, 0011 up to 0017 downloaded successfully but 0017, the last tvwiz file to download, only had 0kB (0011 to 0016 inclusive where all 32,768kB). The same error message came up. WizZilla didn?t shut down after clicking ?OK? for the error message.

The first 0kB tvwiz file using WizFX 1.0.1.4 was 0019 (0011 to 0018 inclusive where all 32,768kB). WizFX downloaded all tvwiz files (0011 to 0077) but 7 of these are 0kB.

This recording has been edited using ?keep A-B?. Both S1s are on a wired LAN with fixed IP addresses - one running 01.05.320 & the other running 01.05.334.

I?ll do the other tests after a couple of timer recordings have finished.

I?ll also make another recording (on the 01.05.334 S1) & see what happens when I download that recording without doing any A-B edits.

One thing I noticed when using 01.05.320; when I use --list -vvvv in getWizPnP.exe (both versions from memory) for another recording that contained a bookmark, getWizPnP.exe seems to stall with the cursor flashing just after listing the bookmark information. After waiting for about 20min I needed to do a <Ctrl C> to exit. I have saved the results for this & can post them later if you wish ? I don?t want to sidetrack this current problem.

Hi, Dennis. Does getWizPnP 0.4.3a work any better than the one distributed with WizZilla? There's a Windows binary version available, so you don't have to mess about with installing Perl.

BTW. That version uses --debug=... for getting information about the trubc file and various other obscure internals, rather than -vvvv...

In both .ts & native formats the download failures are always at the very end of a twiz file, the next file doesn?t download (except for the next file being 0kB in native format).
The above are examples only ? the failure points are random (getWizPnP.exe 0.4.3a doesn?t seem to be any better in this regard than 0.3.4.0).

I?ll do the same tests on a new short unedited recording when I get a chance.

Thanks for your persistence, Dennis.

This is getting a bit weird, because from the shttpd source code (that's the open source HTTP server embedded in the firmware), it only gives a "Bad Request" message if the HTTP request from the client (i.e getWizPnP) is not empty, but is too short to include the HTTP request header ("GET / HTTP/1.1\n\n"). The same function is called in getWizPnP for each recording data file that's copied, so I don't see how it could fail in this way for one recording data file when it's succeeded for some already.

Could you try the following with getWizPnP 0.4.3a?

Code: Select all

getwizpnp.exe -l -a -H <the S1?s fixed IP address> -p 49152 "Escape To The Country" -v --debug=trunc
And post the listed information up to (and a few lines past) the 0015 data file?

Are you also in a position where you can easily run the Perl (non-compiled) version of getWizPnP? If you are, does it behave any differently from the compiled version for the copy?

The error doesn't happen at the end of a data file, it happens at the beginning. The LWP::Simple library module that I'm using creates the destination file for the request, and then sends the request to fetch the part of the file I want. That request fails, and just the empty file that should have contained the data remains.

I'll see if I can cause the problem on a recording on my Lite, but I'm running 01.07.350 (though that's the version that Peter D is now running on his P2, and he's still having the problem.

It's very puzzling.

Edit: The "bad request" message isn't as specific as I thought it was. I'm not actually printing the text reason for the error from the server (bad prl!), just the generic 400 error message from the standard :(.

I?m not in a position to run the Perl version, Peter. I had an old version of Perl but I removed it some time ago ? I didn?t have much use for it.

I finally got a full download of a 20 minute unedited ABC1 test recording. I also had download failures of the same recording. I?ll post the results shortly.

Every now & again during a download I notice the download progressive kB/MB update counter pause for a short period. It usually continues updating but when the download fails it is always during one of these pauses.

R_copy-test97\Once A Soldier - 2011-01-10 13-35.tvwiz\0017: Bad Request

Download failed: Bad Request
The first download was in .ts format downloaded with getWizPnP 0.3.4.0. The downloaded recording is exactly the same as 0000 + 0001 + 0002 + 0003 in native format.
The second download was in native format downloaded with getWizPnP 0.3.4.0. 0000 to 0016 inclusive all 32,768kB & 0017 8,704kB. This download was successful.
The third download was in .ts format downloaded with getWizPnP 0.4.3a. The downloaded recording is exactly the same as 0000 in native format.
The fourth download was in native format downloaded with getWizPnP 0.4.3a. 0000 to 0016 inclusive all 32,768kB & 0017 0kB. .... almost made it.

I just tried 0.4.3a getWizPnP (Perl, not compiled) downloading a top/tailed recording (Keep A->B) from my Lite. It copied without a problem. My installation of pp, the Perl compiler seems to have got lost when I upgraded XCode. I'm downloading it now, but if pp is the problem, than that will test the OS X version, not the Windows version.

WizFX is supposed to not work correctly as well. But how can I tell if WizFX has worked correctly when copying recordings from BW to PC?

Also, is there any known problem with WizFX combining the segments of a recording that was copied to a PC when initiated from the BW end?

WizFX doesn't work correctly with 01.05.334 firmware on the Beyonwiz (and neither do WizZilla or getWizPnP). While the latter two exit with an error, WizFX continues without any error, even though the copy will not be complete. You can probably only be really sure whether WizFX has completed correctly when connecting to 01.05.334 by downloading unedited recordings in native Beyonwiz format (don't convert to TS format) and examining the recording data files (the numbered files) in the resulting .tvwiz folder. All of them except the last one should be exactly 33554432 bytes. If not, or there's one missing in the sequence, then WizFX has failed to download correctly.

If you convert to TS format (edited or unedited), the only way to check whether the WizFX download ran correctly is to watch the video through and see if any bits are missing or corrupted.

OK, I use WizFX to convert directly to a TS file, and thuus cannot see the chunks.

I did not notice you can do it natively and preserve the chunks.

Peter D. In WizFX if you select ?Preference? you have the download option of ?WizFile Format (*.tvwiz)? (native format) or ?Transfer Steam (*.ts)? (single file). If you use ?WizFile Format? (the native format) you will probably see some incorrectly downloaded files with 0kB instead of 32,768kB when viewed with Windows Explorer.

Just for the record, I tried downloading the unedited test recording ?Once A Soldier? in native (WizFile) format using WizFX v.1.0.1.4 with the S1 running 01.05.334, & found;
18 tvwiz files 0000 through to 0017 inclusive, with 0012 & 0015 at 0kB, 0017 at 8,704kB & the remainder at 32,768kB. Using The K-MultimediaPlayer to check the recording start & finish, the recording was complete (except of course for 0012 & 0015).
This is something like I expected with 01.05.344 f/w. Using WizFX to download in .ts format would obviously give me missing parts or corruption in the final download.

?.
Peter, should that read 01.05.334?

Hi Dennis,

Why are you using WizFX version.1.0.1.4 and not version 1.0.2.3?

Yes, I think Peter should be talking about the 01.05.334 firmware and not 01.07.055.

I should also remind readers that this download corruption with 01.05.334 is only triggered when you *fetch* the recording from the Beyonwiz with a computer based tool. If you use the Beyonwiz File Player UI to put a recording out to a PC or network attached disk then this problem/corruption does *not* occur.

Regards,
Ian.
