Can beyonwiz replace xbmc?

Post by mikef » Tue Jul 17, 2007 23:22

Hi,

Planning to buy 1080p lcd/plasma but waiting for some nice media center player that can handle various formats up to 1080p.

Beyonwiz seems to have everything. Just not sure if it handles x264 rips up to 1080p.

Any other issues people have with xvid/divx ac3 rips?

From the users experience am i able to throw away xbox with xbmc on it and replace it with beyonwiz ( and play 1080p x264 movies on it ) ?

thanx

The Xbox360 cannot display HDTV at 50Hz, and probably never will. It's the only thing stopping me from buying one. If you can overlook this major flaw, then it probably has the edge over the Wiz.

i was refering to xbox 1 xbox media center (XBMC) and how its compare to Beyonwiz in term of media format support.

Can Beyonwiz play 1080p x264 movies with no problems?

The Beyonwiz is a close match to XBMC with the exception that it does not read .ifo files, which XBMC does. I have been using XBMC for over 2 years and only now decided to purchase a media centre device, as all previous products on the market have had serious flaws or were limited in their offering.

To date the beyonwiz has played all files XBMC played (with the exception above)

The biggest single advantage that the Beyonwiz has is its linux base, and that will lead to many more features being made available on this platform.
