Yardwiz fails to see recordings

Post by gvm » Mon Feb 10, 2020 20:30

I am trying to offload recordings from my old P2. I have installed Yardwiz on a Win10 PC. Yardwiz posts a message confirming the server is online, but I get this error message: "Unable to check recordings: Bad WizPnP response: No device description returned from http://010.001.001.2:49152/tvdevicedesc.xml"

what is the likely fix for this please? TIA ... Greg

If you can't open http://10.1.1.2:49152/tvdevicedesc.xml from a web browser on your computer and get an XML document returned, then either the Wiz isn't using port 49152 (but I think that's the default) or the Wiz isn't at IP address http://10.1.1.2

Drop the leading zeros. Use 1 instead of 001 and 10 instead of 010.

Ah thank you very much, it works.
Now, when I attempt to convert a file from TVWiz to ts format and select a folder on the desktop to save it to I get the message that desktop is not a TVWiz directory. How do I set up such a directory please? TIA ... Greg

It sounds like you are trying to do something odd. There is no need to download then convert the file, you can simply download the files in .ts containers in one hit.

If you are selecting the "convert" option, that means that YARDWiz will want to convert a set of .tvwiz files that has already been downloaded.

Instead transfer them as .ts files - set Tools >> Options >> Default to TS format for downloads to "ticked".

Otherwise, Tools >> Convert TVWIZ to TS format... will want to open a folder that has an existing recording transferred in TVWIZ format (i.e. a *.tvwiz directory) to create an in-place *.ts file.

I used VLC player to try and convert the .ts to mp4. It looked like it worked but when I play it back the video is black but the sound is good. Other players (media player, quicktime,) could not play the mp4 file at all. Am I missing a codec?

If the .ts plays but not the .mp4 then something didn't go right. Doubt its a codec though as you have VLC and it plays most things well.

I use Handbrake for such conversions and they seem to work ok. It's free.

Vidcoder is pretty good at conversions from TS to MP4 - basically the Handbrake engine in a nicer GUI. To convert TS to MKV is simple just use MkvToolNix very quick no re-encoding

MKV is the preferred format. Choose it over MP4 whenever possible.

Under Tools - Preferences - Output files you can set it to always use .mp4.
