And working fine on my DP-P2 running 1.07.351 ... there is life in the old girl yet!fangios wrote:Good news!!!!

I did notice that sometimes on channel changes it takes a few seconds to "lock up" and actually output a picture, but other than that fine.
Looks like Nein is also doing AC-3 audio, but what they will actually send out on it is another matter of course ...

Yep. 9HD works fine on my old series S1, P1 & P2.
Dolby Digital 5.1 sound too.
Dolby Digital 5.1 sound too.
Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
9HD working fine here on my older DP-P2 running 1.05.350. Racing.com has no sound but no big issue for me, was more concerned about 9HD which has worked out OK. Still don't have an excuse to update to a T4stephenh wrote: And working fine on my DP-P2 running 1.07.351

Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
So if I could summarise for DP-P2 owners (i.e. myself):
By upgrading your DP-P2 to the latest 1.07 firmware, the new 9HD channels should work, but we will lose the ability to play ISO files (which is no biggie, that is what my KODI box is for anyway).
And there are no restrictions on who can use the new 1.07 firmware, if you are a DP-P2 owner? i.e. there is no hardware revision that cannot support 1.07.
Does that about sum it up?

The 9HD channel will work just fine with the 1.05 firmware going by the posts just before yours.Glint.Bladesong wrote:So if I could summarise for DP-P2 owners (i.e. myself):

It is only the Racing.com channel that will have no sound (being AAC).

Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
Hi Glint.Bladesong,
The latest firmware for both generations, 01.05.350 *and* 01.07.350/351 are both acceptable for use with the new 9HD service. The 01.05.350 firmware does not work for RACING.COM and this is only for the audio as the video works fine.
Regards,
Ian.

Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
Hi MrQuade,
Regards,

AAC is fine the problem is that RACING.COM uses HE-AAC which is not supported on the 01.05.xxx firmware.MrQuade wrote:It is only the Racing.com channel that will have no sound (being AAC).

Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
I realise that. I didn't consider making the distinction between AAC and HE-AAC as too important in this context. I was more just pointing what the difference was between Racing.com and NineHD.IanSav wrote: AAC is fine the problem is that RACING.COM uses HE-AAC which is not supported on the 01.05.xxx firmware.

Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
Well, don't I fail in my reading comprehension
So considering that I am not interesting the racing channel (I didn't even know it existed), then I can just re-scan my channels and everything will work fine on my 1.05 version DP-P2.
Well that is good news (and impressive considering the age of the DP-P2). I'm going to need to find a new excuse to get a Tx model now....
Also, thanks to everyone that replied.

Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD
PLEASE HELP! I'm a complete amateur to this forum & to AV equipment. We have several DP-P2's. I turn them on, watch or record tv & that's it. I don't understand anything technical but I need help!
We're a bit behind in the roll out of 9HD here in North Qld. Our first indicator of any issue with our DP-P2s was the launch of 7flix a little over a week ago on 29 Feb 2016. Rescanned channels & found picture but no sound on 7flix, Racing or TV4me. Tried researching & found it had something to do with Mpeg4. 9HD, 9Life etc followed 2 days later on 1 March 2016 but these channels are all fine with no sound or picture problems.
We have 6 DP-P2's in total. 3 older 500gb ones with 1.05.350 firmware system id 0908 0000 0A22 9E3C loader version 1.1.3.1.74, & 3 1tb ones with 1.07.350 firmware. The ones with 1.07.350 firmware have no problem with sound or picture, they work perfectly. It is only the 3 with 1.05.350 firmware which have no sound on 7flix, Racing & TV4me. I checked the firmware update notes & it says older models use 1.05.350, newer models use 1.07.350. I expect mine would be older model but I've not been able to check serial numbers (had a hip replacement a few weeks ago & can't get down to pull out the units). I've read many of these forum posts but most get too technical for me. I tried asking Beyonwiz direct but they referred me back to these forums.
I'd be grateful if someone can help with a simple lay-person answer. Has anyone been able to resolve the audio issue on 7flix on an older 500gb DP-P2 with 1.05.350 firmware by upgrading to 1.07.350? When Beyonwiz referred me to these forums they also cautioned that any attempt to fix the problem could render the units useless. If the firmware upgrade doesn't work, is it possible to reinstall the previous (1.05.350) version or restore to factory? or will any unsuccessful upgrade simply 'brick' the unit completely with no second chances?
I'd really appreciate any advice from anyone with experience with resolving this.
Thanks, Jen

Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
All DP-P2 units are compatible with the 1.07 series firmware. However, not all DP-P2s are compatible with the 1.05 firmware.
Since all of your problem units are the ones already running 1.05, then is is reasonably safe to update them all to 1.07.
You will then be able to get sound on all new channels with AAC-HE audio soundtracks.
You will lose the ability to play back .iso files and DVD folder structures, and you will not be able to play back videos with DTS soundtracks. Your existing 1.07 DP-P2s never had this capability, so it will possibly not be missed.

Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
A big THANK YOU to MrQuade and Grumpy_Geoff for your advice. You gave me the confidence to give it a go on one of my DP-P2's. I selected the 1.07.351 update as that was the only update since 1.05.350 listed for download under the DP-P2 heading, 1.07.350 was listed under the DP-P2TB so as my units are 500gb DP-P2 not 1tb or 2tb I decided to play it a little safe & stick with an update under the simple DP-P2 heading. And IT WORKED!!!!! I now have sound & picture on ALL channels including 7flix, Racing, & TV4me that previously had no sound. I didn't even have to rescan or initialize, even programs I had previously set to record later that night were still set & recorded. Amazing, so I went ahead & did the update on all my DP-P2's and now they're all good I'm so pleased & grateful for your help. It has saved me a lot of money & a lot of frustration & grief! I love my DP-P2 Beyonwizs & now I can keep them a bit longer. Thanks so much
Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
It's funny though. I just read today, that 7flix is actually broadcasting two audio tracks in Melbourne at least:
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=10176&p=136739
It looks like too many people were caught out, so they offer a second, more compatible soundtrack for older units.
I am glad everything worked for you though. You now have all of your bases covered!

A small observation - the P2 - 2TB firmware works too. I quote from an email message I received from Mark (Warkus) "Ignore the fact it is labeled as the 2TB model firmware, there is no such thing... The mainboard in all P2 units is the same, only the size of the HDD differs, there is only one P2 firmware set..."
I used the 2TB firmware from Beyonwiz's site on my own P2. Worked fine.
Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
Warkus may be familiar with the main board, but I don't think he is fully up to speed with the software. I'm pretty sure he was never involved with the beta testing and development discussions back in the day. The Beyonwiz engineers have actually created a firmware specific to 2TB models - it is different. The 2TB models need some special memory handling during HDD check because a 2TB volume HDD check needs more RAM than is normally available. The non-2TB firmware will work with HDDs up to about 750GB, but anything bigger than that may cause issues, depending on the nature of the file system corruption.
Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
The file currently on the Beyonwiz website labelled DPP2TB_1.07.350_Nov2010 etc etc is identical to the no longer available previously available 1.07.350 file that was once available for the so called standard P2.
It's the same file. Other than it being file renamed.
There is no difference, it's funny because I have a copy of the 1.07.350 firmware file that used to be available for the P2 (non 2tb listing on the wiz web site) and file compare shows them identical.
It works on any P2.

Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
Just a little more checking to confirm...
I just downloaded the 1.07.351 firmware from the Beyonwiz website, both versions, ie the one linked to for the 2TB and the one linked to for the standard P2.
Again both files identical.
As were the .350 versions when I file compared those. I still have the original 1.07.350 for the P2 that I downloaded when it first came out. Compare that to the one available for download under the 2TB model and its identical as mentioned.
Hope this helps to clarify things.
File compare is the best way to compare leaving no doubt.

Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
A further small observation for those who run several older units together.
I have one each of S1, P1 and P2.
Before the latest round of TV changes and such, all three were networked (wired) and each could see and play back files/recordings from the others. All were running the last official firmware v350.
Once I updated the S1 and P1 to the later, err, unofficial firmwares to allow my units to receive 7Flix (or, perhaps better to say to be able to handle the specialised variant of AAC sound) I found my P2 would no longer "network" with the other two - even though it would deal with that sound from those new channels. So I updated the P2 to the last firmware Mark refered to from the Wiz site (the DPP2TB.... file) and the networking between the three units was resolved/restored.
I, for one, am very happy with the firmware updates made available for my older Wiz units - even allowing for the resultant functionality losses (disc playback and wireless on my S1 - and some file types on all). I feel I've gained much extra life from my older but still very serviceable units.

Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
Greetings Wiz gurus,
Long time user of Beyonwiz DP-P2 and DP-Lite and always found good advice on the forum ... but now I have run into a problem that I can't seem to solve.
I'm running the respective 1.07.350 firmware on both and have been able to get picture and sound on all channels until now.
However in the last week I've lost sound on the 7 food network (channel 74) on both Wizs. I get sound on all the other channel 7 stations (including the other HE-AAC 2.0 audio station - channel 78). So can't figure out what is going on and what to do. Hoping that someone else has run into the same issue and has a solve.
Otherwise what is the best way to follow up with channel 7.
Many thanks in advance.

Hmm, Racing, com and 7 Food appear to be using the same encoding formats and resolutions, so strange for one to work and not the other.Ari_heri wrote: ↑Sun Jul 28, 2019 15:11However in the last week I've lost sound on the 7 food network (channel 74) on both Wizs. Have you tried a simple channel re-scan to see if it is something to do with what the Wiz is expecting to receive?

Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
My guess is that 7 food network has changed (something about) their audio encoding. If there are enough people adversely affected, then they may be persuaded to change it back. That sort of thing has happened in the past.
Running 01.07.351 might help: http://www.beyonwiz.com.au/media/downlo ... 107351.wrp, but it's a bit of a long shot.
The 7plus web page has a contact link, but it's only a web form. On the up side, though, there is a "Technical" category for enquiries.
Other users may be able to shed some light on the issue, but it might be helpful if you said what broadcast area you're in. The problem may be local.

You are right about it beings strange when both channels use the same audio encoding.MrQuade wrote: ↑Sun Jul 28, 2019 17:06Hmm, Racing, com and 7 Food appear to be using the same encoding formats and resolutions, so strange for one to work and not the other.Ari_heri wrote: ↑Sun Jul 28, 2019 15:11However in the last week I've lost sound on the 7 food network (channel 74) on both Wizs. I get sound on all the other channel 7 stations (including the other HE-AAC 2.0 audio station - channel 78). So can't figure out what is going on and what to do. Hoping that someone else has run into the same issue and has a solve.
Have you tried a simple channel re-scan to see if it is something to do with what the Wiz is expecting to receive?
I’ll try prl’s suggestion on a firmware update and see if that resolves matters.
Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
An update ...
I’ve performed the firmware update suggested by prl. Unfortunately no change.
I contacted the Seven Network on (02) 8777 7777 and was contacted by John who took the time to discuss the problems I’m having. Long story short, in the last week they have been making a number of changes to equipment in Sydney and likely one of those is causing the issues. They replaced one faulty piece for channel 74 with another brand but used same parameters which may be why even though channel 78 works fine for picture and sound channel 74 is somehow encoding the HE-ACC 2.0 diffferently. They have just launched channel 75 today (openshop) using the same equipment as 74 and again no sound.
They are making more changes on the next few weeks which may fix things or indeed make them worse and impact all the mpeg-4 channels that use HE-ACC 2.0 sound. Also, the Sydney signal will be transmitted to other cities (e.g. Melb).
Not great news but John is open to discussing further. If anyone in Sydney or elsewhere with a DP model encounters the problem they are welcome to get in touch. Apparently he has worked with someone in Melb familiar with Beyonwiz in the past.
Hopefully it resolves once all the changes are done. Hope this is helpful to others.

Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
Hi Ari_heri,
That someone in Melbourne would be me. John and I have worked together many years ago when I did work to assist Network Seven engineers with computer projects including AFL, Golf, Racing and some game shows. John has just contacted me with details of the equipment changes. I will have a look shortly.
Regards,
Ian.

Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
Hi Ian,
Appreciate the heads up. The support from folks on this forum is awesome.
John mentioned using DVD Inspector to compare Beyonwiz recordings from the Sydney channels 74 and 78. I imagine you would be much more likely to note anything different. I’m happy to contribute in any way I can.

Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
Perhaps try Mediainfo instead. This is a common tool for extracting media file detail, and you can easily compare the text output between two files.
When I checked my recordings (in Perth), they all came up as identical across both services, so it would be interesting to see your results.

Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
Hi Ari_heri,
John has filled me on on the changes happening at Seven and the tests he has asked you to perform. Unfortunately there are some changes happening Seven that are transitional and will be causing different issues to different areas around Australia.
I understand the you have now factory reset your box and cleared and rescanned your services. Let me do this in dot point format:
I will be using my DP-S1 running 01.05.350 firmware here in Melbourne to run some tests tonight to see if I can replicate your observations.
Regards,
Ian.

- With which box have you been running all your tests?
- What firmware are you now using. (I don't think there is any effective difference in this area of the code between the 01.05.350 and the 01.05.351 firmware.)
- When you reinitialised your box did you reinstall the firmware?
- When did you last clear all services and rescan all the channels?
- Is it correct that you don't have sound from the onset and it never starts?
- What happens with the sound on *all* the Seven services?
- Have you run though the Recommended Audio Settings... FAQ?
I will be using my DP-S1 running 01.05.350 firmware here in Melbourne to run some tests tonight to see if I can replicate your observations.

Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
Hi Ian,
In response to your questions ...
1. With which box have you been running all your tests?
2. What firmware are you now using. (I don't think there is any effective difference in this area of the code between the 01.05.350 and the 01.05.351 firmware.)
I've been testing both my Beyonwiz boxes:
DP-Lite running firmware 1.07.350 when the problem was noticed on channel 74, and then installed 1.07.351 but sill having the sound issue.
DP-P2 running 1.07350 which also has no sound on channel 74
3. When you reinitialised your box did you reinstall the firmware? Yes, on the DP-Lite. The P2 has been reinitialised only, I've left the firmware as is since it didn't fix the DP-Lite.
4. When did you last clear all services and rescan all the channels? Yesterday, cleared all services and rescanned both boxes several times.
5. Is it correct that you don't have sound from the onset and it never starts? I had picture and sound on both boxes up until a week ago but no sound on either box ever since and it has never come back.
6. What happens with the sound on *all* the Seven services? The sound is available on seven services 7, 70, 71,72, 73, 76, and 78 but not on 74 or the new 75.
7. Have you run though the Recommended Audio Settings... FAQ? Yes, and tried every other combination besides before going back to the recommended settings.

Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
One area to investigate would be the relative delay between video and audio tracks. The new service could possibly exceed the buffer capacity of the DP-series codecs.
Working: Video_Delay/String : -266ms
Broken: Delay relative to video : -928 ms

Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
Mystery solved (I hope)
Just tried audio on 74 and 78 on the DP-P2 (1.07.351 firmware) in Melbourne.
I can confirm that sound is ok on 78 but dead on 74. Made no difference whether I was on pass-through, decode or 2ch for both AAC and Dolby.
Copied test files to PC. Both files play with audio. Mediainfo results identical and match above post. Potplayer audio codec data also matched.
However, the VLC audio codec data did not match in one respect: the good audio is on Stream 1 but the faulty audio is encoded as Stream 2.
IanSav, maybe your friend at 7 can pass on the details of the problem for a fix.
Cheers,

Hi All,
Thank you all for your comments and suggestions.
John is probably one of the key people working on the problem and not just a conduit. I have just had a chat to him and he believes this information gives him some ideas on where to look to identify and hopefully resolve the problem.
I will update this thread when I hear back from John.
Regards,
Ian.

Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
Hi Ari_heri,
Can I please have an update on the audio problems.
I am curious to know if you have now also lost audio on LCN 78 (RACING.COM). Some changes were made in Melbourne to try and resolve the issues on LCNs 74 and 75 but they had an unexpected effect on LCN 78. John is investigating this latest wrinkle.
There is a planned major restructure of broadcasting for the Seven Network this coming week. If all goes well the changes are planned for Tuesday. We will have to see what these changes bring. The broadcast systems are expected to be simplified. This may bring improvements or it could make things worse. Time will tell.

DP-S1 in Perth - no sound on the AAC-HE services of 7food network, openshop, nor Racing.com (LCNs 74, 75, 78).
No change - same situation as a few weeks ago.
Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
Hi Grumpy_Geoff,
Regards,
Ian.
So Melbourne now matches the situation in Perth. Thanks, I will let John know.Grumpy_Geoff wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2019 09:46DP-S1 in Perth - no sound on the AAC-HE services of 7food network, openshop, nor Racing.com (LCNs 74, 75, 78).

In Melbourne, on the P2 I have sound on Racing.com but not 7food or openshop.

Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
Hi All,
The new transmission system is now in active use by Network Seven.
My testing today in Melbourne using a DP-S1 running firmware version 01.05.350 shows that there is still no audio on LCNs 74 (7food network), 75 (openshop) and 78 (RACING.COM). Further there is no useful EPG data for openshop. All entries are now a useless "Home Shopping".
I have updated Network Seven of the ongoing problem and am awaiting further information.
Regards,
Ian.

Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
Hi Ian,
I've been busy with work, so couldn't respond earlier.
Like others I've still got no sound on channels 74 and 75, and now also lost sound on channel 78.
John, has kept me up to date and advises a playout change was done on Wednesday of this week. 78 is now being transmitted from the same head-end as 74 and 75 & all signals are now fully stat-muxed in a fully integrated format. Channel 7 techs are still trying things but it is starting to look like they won't be able to get a solution. Other boxes like the old Tivo and Magic have also reported problems (either no sound or sound on one audio L/R).
I'll keep you posted, although I expect you will know before me.
Thanks again, Ari_heri,

Re: DP-P2, AAC Audio and Upcoming New Nine HD?
Hi Ari_heri,
Yes, I have been working with John on this issue.
Apparently the supplier of the new equipment does not want to offer older versions of the codecs to support the older devices out in the field in Australia. Seven are trying to find configuration options that may get the sound working again but it is not looking good.
I will also update this thread if I learn anything more.
Regards,
Ian.
