Ordered WizOTT from Dealspace.com.au

Post by Bruce85 » Mon Apr 18, 2011 02:14

I ordered a WizOTT from DealSpace.com.au on the 9th of April. Paypal says the e-Cheque I sent cleared around Thursday/Friday.

Dealspace.com.au says the order is still processing.

How long should I expect to wait for it to arrive in the mail?

Don't they courier, rather than mail stuff?

Anyway, the WizOTT page on the Dealspace site says they have 49 in stock, so if yours is one of them, I'd guess pretty soon :)

Hi Bruce85,

The last thing I heard was that all the units were being firmware upgraded before being shipped. Hopefully your unit isn't too far away.

Regards,
Ian.

I'd love to hear your review, Bruce, once you do get it. I'm seriously thinking of getting one for my Dad, mostly to do photo slideshows.

It arrived today. So far I haven't been able to connect it to the internet. There's nothing wrong with the ethernet cable I"m using -- it works perfectly fine for my Beyonwiz DP-P2, but it keeps on saying "There is no internet connection" for the WizOTT. I don't know what's wrong with it.

An operating manual was sent with it, though there's nothing usual in it. Not a single shred of information in it about troubleshooting.

Internet

Post by Bruce85 » Mon Apr 18, 2011 17:52

How come I cannot establish an internet connection on my WizOTT? It works for my two Beyonwiz DP-P2 units. I used the Automatic (DHCP) setting for my DP-P2 and it works fine. It won't work for my WizOTT.

Is the unit faulty or have I done something wrong? Unlike the DP-P2, the WizOTT doesn't seem to have any way to test the signal.

Can some one from Beyonwiz please give me a hand?

I'll have to do that tomorrow. Doubt they'll be in office now.

WizOTT Internet Connection

Post by gomax » Mon Apr 18, 2011 18:58

While ya waiting, why not try assigning an IP address instead of Auto DHCP.

I did that a few times. Didn't work. I'll try again.

This is what the configuration page asks.

Code: Select all

Configure Ethernet device

Connection Type

() Automatic (DHCP)
() Static IP

__________
Isn't there supposed to be a field for Primay and Secondary DNS?

Only if your current DNS source is unreliable. But I presume since it will be your router (e.g. 192.168.0.1 if that is your router gateway address) you don't really need a secondary (since your router is probably given a primary and secondary from your ISP, and the router's job is to provide you a DNS resolution via proxy to the working DNS server your ISP provides).

Hi Tony.

I found the problem. One end of the ethernet cable was loose. Snipping it off and then crimping a new RJ46 socket onto it has done the job. All working now!

Well, I cannot watch any videos on it until I install a 2.5" HDD that has been formatted. All I've been able to use so far is the internet for general web browsing. Seems fine so far.

I was going to test out the videos section on it with the 2.5" HDD I bought from the local computer store. Problem is I think it might have fried while I tried to format it on my old desktop. I saw smoke coming out from the molex cable and the sata cable. It produced a putrid smell, sort of like burnt glue. Now my old PC isn't working. Guess I won't be checking out the video section any time soon...

Does it have android 2.2 or 2.1 on it?

It supports DLNA streaming as far as I am aware (or this might be another of those "coming soon" features grr), so you don't need a HDD on it (my Samsung Galaxy S does this, but with only composite output it is pretty pewky on a 42" screen).

Tony

Right now it's 2.1 (Eclair), but 2.2 (Froyo) is coming. Sigma Designs are also working on 2.3 (Gingerbread), so we may see that update eventually.

Neither the website, box nor the printed manual mention DLNA and I've seen nothing in the UI that would suggest DLNA capabilities.

Oh... sorry for the furfy. I guess it could play stuff from windows shares though still?
edit: Just read your other thread, the answer is yep.
Media streaming might still be possible with the addition of a third party app anyway. I wonder if I could put the Samsung "All Share" on it from my phone (de-odexed presumably since the app is probably tied into the phone framework.. ) wish I was back in Australia to give one a shot!

Furphy - from John Furphy, Victorian manufacturer of water and sanitation carts used by Australian troops in WW I. The water carts were centers for the exchange of gossip. Interesting parallel etymology with scuttlebutt.

If you are interested in more WizOTT info (not quite a review), see this thread: http://www.beyonwiz.com.au/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=6404

I've been enjoying the YouTube videos and Internet videos from NASA, Onion News Network and DIscovery News.

All it needs now is Australian content and access to the FTAs VOD.
