how to open .tvwiz files on a MAC

Post by Robert_M » Wed Apr 08, 2020 11:09

I used to be able to open downloaded ( via WizMAC) .tvwiz files and open same using MPEG Streamclip.
Same with .ts files, for that matter but cannot any more using MPEG Streamclip.
Is there another alternative , please?

MPEG Streamclip should be able to open .ts files.

But it's a 32-bit app, and won't run on Catalina.

Hi Peter,
As mentioned it used to but hasn't for a couple of MacOS's and I'm still on Hi Sierra because I still wish to use some 32 bits apps.
Streamclip says I need the MPEG2 plugin which I bought years ago and now won't let me open the BW files.
When it did open them, it would be OK with SD, but did not like the HD .mp4 files wrapped inside the .ts file.
Sadly Streamclip is dead after V1.93b :(
Thus still looking for a solution.

I know next to nothing about Macs but would Avidemux for Mac do what you want?

The HD stations are not mpeg2 could that be the reason?

Yes, quite likely, but I don't have a working version of Streamclip to test on.

Thanks for the suggestion of Avidemux, I am still checking it out.
Yes I know that the transport streams from the HD stations are not MPEG2 as the SD ones are, but are MP4 which sadly Streamclip don't support as they seem to have gone out of business :(
Thanks for the thoughts :) I'll press on :)

Interesting.
I am in Brisbane and must not have had a need to record any of the SD stations that encode with MPEG4.
Good to know though.

9Life is the only one of the Canberra SD MPEG4 channels I'd ever record from.

I took the lists from the lamedb5 (easier to parse than the lamedb file) file on my test V2, without noticing that it hadn't scanned Seven. My test PVRs are on tiny indoor antennas, and often don't tune all channels when I scan.

I've re-scanned and fixed the list.

This is the one-liner that does the work:

Code: Select all

awk -F: '/^s:/{if($6 == 25) print $8; }' /etc/enigma2/lamedb5 | sed -e 's/.*,"//' -e 's/",.*//'
That lists the HD MPEG4 channels. Change $6 == 25 to $6 == 22 for SD MPEG4, and to $6 == 1 for MPEG2, SD and HD, but I don't think anyone is broadcasting HD MPEG2 any more.
