Forum Theme

Post by gibster » Sun Feb 23, 2020 19:43

Hi.

I'm trying to find a way to change the colours of the forums. specifically the background. I've looked around through the User Control Panel for Theme setting and can find none.

I had to purchase a new monitor since my old Dell decided to die on me. I purchased a Philips 28" 4k UHD monitor and it's got a great picture. But whites are really white and trying to get them dimmed down a bit.

I know some forum software has skins, but can't find anything on this one.

Thanks

gib

Not sure about the forum, but you can set three be monitor to a warmer colour temperature and turn down the backlight brightness. My own monitor is insanely bright and I run mine on less than half power to compensate.

Some operating systems can also switch to night mode to further tone down the colours at night when your eyes are most sensitive to light.

Try Greasemonkey, but avoid Stylish (it has spyware).

Interesting. I have been using Stylish because you created a fix for forum formatting with it. Otherwise I wouldn't have installed it.

Have you done something similar with Greasemonkey?

Unfortunately, Stylish was bought by an Israeli company that inserted spyware into the extension. It was subsequently pulled from the Mozilla add-ons servers and added to a black list. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stylish#Privacy_issues

I do have a Greasemonkey script for the Beyonwiz forums to fix fonts. https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/39681 ... wser-fonts

Thanks Peter for that.

BTW Stylish is still listed by Mozilla in their add-ons

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... src=search

It says not recommended but the same is said for Greasemonkey.

I read that it has been restored once they actually published what they were doing with the data. So not that they don't still vacuum up your data, its just that they are now up front about it. The same article said that there was a drop-in alternative called "Stylus" that was free and open.

That's good as it comes up as recommended and will find and use PeterU's style for Stylish.

Thanks for the tip, I might give Stylus a go. Greasemonkey is a bit heavy-weight to simply restyle a few elements.

Thanks for all the info. I've finally figured out how to get the monitor to not be so bright. Would have been nice for a board plugin for themes though.

Cheers
