Slow External hard drive

Post by farbs73 » Wed Oct 12, 2011 22:52

Allo all, I have an WD 1.5 TB externally powered hard drive plugged into the USB port of my wiz that I have all my movies on. Originally I just took it out the box, put my movies on and used it happily until I found it wasn't formatted to be used with the wiz. So, I reformatted it to FAT32 so I could move recordings off my wiz onto it, but now it runs VERY slow. It now takes 3-4 minutes just to open the drive. I didn't have any problems with it before. Any advice on how to make it run faster. Cheers

Partition it into 2 partitions, one ntfs for all media, and one fat32 for wizs files.

OK, took me a while to get around to it, but I tried the partition, using windows vista, but it only allows me to format the drive to "exFAT" which my wiz doesn't seem to recognition. I tried using the wiz to format FAT32 then plug it into the computer and partition it after that, but it wont let me partition it unless it's formatted as NFTS. How do I format each partition to fat32 and NTFS?

Do a google search for guiformat.exe

This is windows skinned version of the DOS formatting program (fat32format) many of us have used for years.
