BR-01 remote is playing up
My BR-01 remote is playing up. I need to hold any button down for about 6 seconds before it lights up the red light and sends a signal. When it finally does this, it works correctly but the remote is now almost unusable. Is there anything I can do about his ? or do I need to buy a new one?

I have had this happen with my P2 remote (one of them) and fiddling around has partially resurrected it. It may have been caused by a leaky battery or one of the kids sitting on it and keeping a button or 2 pressed for an extended period.
I replaced batteries and twisted them in situ. I suspect the leak caused corrosion on one of the springs and it looks discoloured so may not have good contact anymore. Also tried light tapping of remote on table and harder into the palm of my hand. It is not too bad now.
My other P2 remote has a sticky left arrow button that drives me nuts. Not sure if this is warranty claimable fault.

Damage from a leaky battery probably isn't claimable. The sticky button is worth a try. Especially given what Beyonwiz charges for replacement ($59.95+$10 freight).grl wrote:I have had this happen with my P2 remote (one of them) and fiddling around has partially resurrected it. Hi All
I have just had to buy a new remote for the DP-P1. It suddenly started acting up as in the previous posts above. It looks like the controller chip is playing up.
I have had the DP-P1 for 3 years in January and this is the second replacement remote I have had to buy for it.
I have had remote controls for other equipment for over ten years without any problems. It is a pity the Beyonwiz remote is not made to that standard.
Regards
Lance

Hi Lance,
Did you discuss this problem with Beyonwiz customer support? The Beyonwiz remote controls are reasonably well made and should not have such a short life span. (There is an exception where a batch of remotes had a manufacturing problem and were effectively DOA. They were immediately replaced by Beyonwiz under warranty.)
Regards,
Ian.

Try carefully cleaning the damaged terminal with very fine (1000+) wet and dry carborundum paper to remove the corrosion, then carefully tinning the surface with solder to restore an excellent contact.grl wrote:I have had this happen with my P2 remote (one of them) and fiddling around has partially resurrected it. If the unit is still under warranty ring Beyonwiz. My other P2 remote has a sticky left arrow button that drives me nuts. Not sure if this is warranty claimable fault.
If not then examine the case surround of the button under a magnifying glass with a good light source. You will probably find a very small moulding dag that is fouling the button. Very carefully remove it with a scalpel. Be very careful not to slice into the button else the slice will catch on the case and you will have a worse sticking button.

Well at the time, no, but my answer was intended as generic advice for all the issues raised so far in this thread. Grl's post was the most generic to quote from.Gully wrote:Did you realise you are responding to posts from January?

And I guess I should have also pushed the marginal battery barrow as well to complete the picture, so I will do it now.
BW remote controllers become unreliable as the batteries come to the end of their life. The illuminated buttons can still appear normal even though the batteries are too flat to power the remote correctly. Similar conditions can also occur for poor terminal contact.
