T3 accessing T4 and vice versa

Post by Robert_M » Mon Sep 25, 2023 12:11

Hello,
I have a T3 and a T4 STB and would like to be able to access each machine via the media button on the remote.
Could someone kindly send me a link or instructions on how to map and if there are user names and passwords, what should I expect as the machines have never been preset for anything in particular.
When I access these machines via my network into the iMac, it seems to login as guest, without a password? should that be?
The T4 user manual I have does not seem to have a section to refer to.
Thank you and await your reply :)
Robert.

Hi Robert

On the T3:

In Menu>Setup>Network select the network browser. It will list the IPs of available shares after a delay.

Select the T4's entry by it's IP address. Get this from Menu>Information >Network on the T4.

For the username and password select "no" each time it asks - it's not required if you haven't changed the default settings.

The list should expand to show the folders available to share on the T4. If it doesn't expand, it's usually because it wants a username and password for the shared location.

Select the Movie folder and press OK. Answer "no" again.

The mount manager will open with all the fields prefilled. You can change the local share name if you like. As a first time user, maybe better to leave it all alone. You can quickly edit anything later using the Mount manager.

Check the mount options are correct (rw, utf8), then press GREEN. Answer "yes" to save this network mount and WAIT! Do not press EXIT until the screen returns.

After a short delay, the folder will be mounted and available for use. Now press EXIT 3, maybe 4 times to live TV.

Press MEDIA, then YELLOW. Select the T4 movie folder. Job done.

Repeat on the T4.

That should sort out both machines.

Cheers, Paul

Hello Paul,

Thank you for your reply.

I have tried to do what you have described previously without significant success.
When I recently received my T3 and was setting it up I managed ( but cannot remember exactly how) to get the T3 to access the T4's movie folder.
It's the reverse that I have been struggling with.
As it happens I am about to go overseas on Sunday so probably will need to remind myself of all of this and revisit then.
However, that said, I may, from the description following just be told I have forgotten or not done something simple and it's sorted before I leave :)

Basically, just when I think I got somewhere, mapping the folder, I can apparently open the folder but view the contents, guessing I don't have the permissions?
The reply is that the directory does not exist.

OK, what I tried,....... there are Photos, that I can send if you think that helps as well :)
To start, Delete via Menu>Setup>Network>Mount Manager>Mountpoints management> (yellow) Delete (old) mount and start again.
Reboot T4; menu>Setup>Network>Network Browser>>select T3 (IP address is known)>>select Movie>>OK>>Mounts editor U <none>; pw .. <none> then (green) SAVE >yes and wait for mount activation.
(green) login>prompt to enter U & pw for T3 <none> & <none> then OK and exit on remote 5 times.
on T4 remote>MEDIA/hdd select T3_movie >>invalid and does not exist! ??
I do note in this process I see the T3 in the directory autofs>BEYONWIZT3_Movie and clicking on this also returns does not exist.

So as mentioned, if you would like the matching photos to the description above, please ask, perhaps a private message or email is best here?

I await your reply and thank you in advance.
Robert .

The problem will likely be the T4 defaulting to the wrong version of Samba - the T3 uses version 1.0 of Samba. The T4 default is 2.1. Changing the SMB protocol version on the T4 mount entry should fix the problem.

In the mount manager change the SMB protocol version to 1.0 by pressing the right arrow on the setting. Save and restart the GUI or reboot.

Hopefully, that will fix it.

If the entry is there just edit the entry. Edit: The setting to be changed is in each mount manager entry.

You may need to reboot the T3 too. If it still fails change the mount type to FSTAB on the T4 but this is not the best approach.

Hello Paul,
Sadly the SMB settings didn’t work,
Did not try your FSTAB option as couldn’t quickly find.
Changed the T4 to 1 from default and rebooted both T3&4.
Then set both to 2.1 and still ng.
Even tried “guest” and <none> as login but also ng.
Oh well, thank you for your help but ran out of time so will pursue upon my return.
Cheers, Robert.

No worries Robert.

Fstab is an option in the mount manager- it's the very first line. You change autofs to fstab, save the setting and restart the GUI.
