Transfer P1 remote to P2

Post by Chask » Fri Jul 03, 2020 12:24

I have both a DP-P1 and a DP-P2.

The P1 is no longer required and the P2 remote has some “sticky” buttons.

I would like to use the P1 remote on the P2, but it doesn’t seem to register. Is there any way I can make this happen.

The 2 remotes look identical though the P1 is labeled BR-01 and the P2 is labeled BR-02

Have tried the “hold ok and 2 buttons for 10 secs” but doesn’t have any effect.

Appreciate any advice

Chas

The P1 remote (BR-01) can only send one remote code set. Of the DP series remotes, only the BR-02 can change code sets.

I think that it's possible to hack the DP-P2 firmware to change its code set, but I don't think I ever tried to do it. It's certainly possible on the other DP series boxes that I tried it on.

I still have the patcher script that does it, but it's very dusty code.

Sorry, I don’t understand the concept of changing code sets. Are you saying that there is no way of using the DP-P1 remote on the P2?

Sorry, I don’t understand the concept of changing code sets.

When you press a button on a remote control, it sends a numeric code. One part of the code indicates which button was pressed, the other part indicates what type of remote control it is. A code set refers to all the button codes that are sent with the same remote control id.

The BR-02 remote that was sold with the DP-P2 can be set to send any of have 8 different code sets, numbered 1-8. By default it sends code set 2, for the DP-P2. If you change it to code set 1, then it sends the same codes that a BR-01 remote sends, and can operate a DP-P1 in that mode (also operates the DP-S1 & H1).

The DP-P2 manual (Introduction, 4-2. Operating Other Beyonwiz Products) tells you how to change the remote code set on the BR-02 remote. It only mentions setting code sets 1 & 2, but it can also be set to code sets 3-8 in the same way.

But that capability is on your remote that doesn't work.

The only way to do it is to hack the firmware on the DP-P2. Otherwise, no.

An alternative is to use a programmable remote like the Logitech Harmony 650.

OK Peter. Thanks, I now understand.

It’s not really a big deal as I now also have a Fetch box and expect I will decrease my use of the Wiz, though I do have a lot of stuff stored which I access fairly regularly.

May explore breaking into the BR-02 to see if I can clean the contacts. I do also have a Logitech tucked away in a drawer somewhere!

Thanks for your help.

I'm still using the BR-01 and every couple of years my buttons start to stick or not make contact properly and I just separate the back off it and clean all the contacts with a cotton bud and Isopropyl alcohol and it's good to go for a few more years. Sadly I don't think my DP-S1 will be lasting too much longer though? :D

Cheers,
John

I'm pretty sure that years and years ago I posted information on this forum on how to clean and recondition the DP-series remotes. It should not be very hard to bring the remote back to life, as long as there isn't any major physical damage, such as cracked board or corroded battery terminals.

Couldn’t find any screws holding the back to the front, so presumably it is just a matter of pricing them apart - carefully!.

Is there any particular part of the case that is best to start the process?

I was hunting for PeterU's instructions, but was not successful.

However, I did find the nearly identical thread on this topic including the remote control code hacking instructions front prl.

The links even appear to still work which is a real miracle!
