It looks like shingled drives are going to be very difficult to avoid in the future.

Oh wow, I was going to say it would be best to stick with RAID rated drives to dodge that bullet, but then further down, WD confirm that their 2-6GB RED drives will be using SMR! Yet bizarrely, their higher capacity RED drives don't use it.

That's atrocious when RAID stability relies on predictable latencies!
