should be the same for H1 as for P1 etc etc

Depends, are you registering the drive as a recording drive on the unit? If so, this is a unique feature of the H1. But I would imagine "about" 500G might be the limit for a recording drive, although people have managed to get 1TB drives into their P1/S1s, so who knows really?
It only has a single tuner remember, so not quite the same cool features as the P1/S1/P2 in terms of streaming back to other devices for example. Are you really going to fill 500G in a hurry? I have had about 500G on my S1 for almost a year, and still haven't filled it (but have gotten close with 70G remaining a few times!)

Yes i am referring to USB drives for use as the main recording drive used by the H1

do you think that its the case that if i buy a drive over 500G then the H1 might not recognise it at all? or it will just recognise the first 500G?

I'd hate to buy a drive then have to downgrade to a smaller one...

does anyone know where i can find out what the "Official" Beyonwiz position on this aspect of the H1 is ? as the manual doesnt mention anything about a USB size limit. only that any usb 2.0 device is accepted as long as it draws less than 500mA.

Official is 500G. Unofficial is yet to be determined, but the filesystem checking schemes are going to run out of puff trying to check a damaged filestructure at very large sizes (not enough RAM).
It certainly doesn't just have a hard limit on 500G, well, not for the P1/S1..
