Playing recorded shows from a DP2 using a H1

Post by wappinghigh » Mon May 04, 2009 18:45

Newbie again

I've got a new DP2. Brillliant. All networked and all. Just checking I can use 2 x H1's to play recoded shows off the D2. The specs just say a D1.

Thanks!

Anything which has "WizPNP server" support will stream. It is just that the H1 specs pre-dates the P2.

You will need to watch the output bandwidth available from the server, it is throttled so as not to impede the normal function of the host.

Maximum output is only available when the server is idle in the menu. Effectively none is available when the host is recording 2 HiDef and Chase Playing or watching a 3rd HiDef stream.

Even when idle in the menu you may have trouble driving 2 H1's with some source material. i.e. HiDef or high rate SD

DP-H1 (confirming again)

Networked to a DP1/2,

1/ Can the DP-H1 play .ts Files?

2/ Can it play MKV files?

3/ Can it play these files off a networked drive (like the DP2 can) ?

In other words is it EXACTLY the same as a PD2 : minus a HDD and AV input.

No, it also has only one tuner.

Ian.

And it doesn't have a WizPNP *server* to stream back to the PC or other Wiz's (it does have a WizPNP client so it can stream *from* other Wiz's and PC whenever someone writes the PC server :-))

Sorry to be a pain but...

Post by wappinghigh » Thu May 07, 2009 22:08

I understand it can only function as a client. This is what I want it for...but:

The HP 1 features section on the beyonwiz website doesn't list .ts and particularly .MKV as movie file formats....

so I am assuming from your answers that this has changed due to firmware upgrades...

Since there seems no where you can get one (and confirm this) except online...I just ordered one on line, so it'll be going back if this isn't the case....

BTW does it use the same remote (with the same IR codes)....?

The same as the S1/P1, but the P2 has a new device code thankfully.
Yes, the Wiz has been improving all the time over the couple of years it has been out, so anything printed in specification can tend to indicate considerably less than what it really has, best to look at subsequent firmware upgrade release notes and threads on these forums for what features have come along. There was meant to be updated manuals (many of the beta team spent a LOT of time fixing the manuals up to read properly and have all the current features of 261 I think it was.... to little/no avail as not even the downloadable manual is the edited one yet?)

Correct, the downloadable manual for the DP-S1 (whose manual the beta testers worked on) is the quaintly antique 1.4e.

Hi,

I am hoping we will all see new manuals soon. I just hope that it is not the manual we wrote without further updates as there have been a number of changes since we finished the re-writes.

Ian.

Is the DP-H1 able to stream ISO files from a NAS or NFS share? Or do the files need to be loaded either on it's local (USB) HDD or via a P2/P1 device?

Reading the rest of this therad, is it true that if the P2 is busy recording 2 channels then you're unable to stream? I thought the H1 had the ability to stream a file that was being recorded?

The H1 can play media files from a Windows share in the same way as all the other models.
You can't mount NFS shares through the Beyonwiz GUI.

The issue of whether the server can stream reliably to a client when it's under load, as with two simultaneous recordings (streaming SD may be OK, streaming HD probably won't work reliably). You can stream an SD recording as it's being recorded, and there's nothing that prevents you trying to stream a HD recording this way, but it may not stream reliably.

These HD streaming reliability issues are server side, and it doesn't matter what the Beyonwiz client is.
