Prl is right, copyright is automatic - it subsists under Australian law provided the criterion of original expression is satisfied.

Not sure if this is causing the issue, but don't forget that if you are sharing by an account - and possibly also if via guest - that you also need to enable sharing permission for the account on the folder and files concerned (though right click, Get Info on the folder and files).
