Probably the USB disk/stick is dicked in some way.

Remove the microSD card.
Power the V2 on.

I think what ploughguy is experiencing here is more of the original bugs with the V2 drivers not correctly reporting playback position, this time during some trick play modes.

Almost certainly the power supply. With the hard disk disconnected, there is less load so the power supply may come closer to tolerance, but is obviously still not making the grade.
